Abby Y. Liu, M.D. is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in comprehensive eye care and surgery. Born in Shanghai, China, she immigrated to the United States as a young child and maintains fluency in Mandarin Chinese. She has lived all over the country, including New York, Rhode Island, Texas, South Carolina, Georgia, and North Carolina, and is now proud to call Alameda, California home. 

She attended Brown University, where she graduated magna cum laude with a double-major in Neuroscience and Psychology. She earned her medical degree from Emory University on numerous academic merit scholarships. She then went on to complete a residency in ophthalmology at Wake Forest Eye Center, where she served as Chief Resident in her final year and participated in a surgical mission trip to Honduras. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.

Dr. Liu is skilled in performing cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation using both standard and premium lenses. She is experienced in the management of a variety of eye conditions, including glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, dry eyes, uveitis, and also performs routine eye exams. She has published in the ophthalmic literature and has presented several award-winning research posters at state and national conferences. 

In her spare time, she enjoys taking long walks on Crown Memorial Beach with her husband and young son, playing piano, and cooking. She is an aspiring kitesurfer.
